About Isturisa

Overview

Isturisa (osilodrostat) is a prescription medicine taken as tablets. It treats excess cortisol produced by the body in adults with Cushing’s syndrome when surgery is not an option or has not been curative. It works by blocking an enzyme in the adrenal glands that is needed for the final step of cortisol production.

What it treats

Endogenous hypercortisolemia (excess cortisol produced by the body) in adults with Cushing’s syndrome when surgery is not an option or has not been curative.

Safety information

Side effects

Common side effects include adrenal insufficiency (too little cortisol), tiredness, nausea, headache, swelling, reduced appetite, joint pain, muscle pain and diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if you develop side effects. Serious risks include low cortisol and potentially life-threatening adrenal insufficiency. Cortisol suppression can continue after treatment is interrupted or stopped, so ongoing monitoring is needed. Isturisa can also prolong the QT interval, a change in the heart’s electrical activity. An electrocardiogram (ECG) is required for all patients, with caution needed in those with risk factors for QT prolongation. Increased adrenal hormone precursors and androgens can cause low blood potassium, worsening high blood pressure, swelling and excessive hair growth. Your doctor will monitor for these effects.

Before taking this medicine

These can affect your Isturisa treatment, and your prescriber may need to adjust your dose. Also let your doctor know if you stop taking a strong CYP3A4 and CYP2B6 inducer, as your Isturisa dose may need to be reduced.

Storage
