About Amvuttra
Overview
Amvuttra contains vutrisiran, a medicine for adults with transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis. It treats nerve damage (polyneuropathy) caused by the hereditary form of this condition. It also treats heart muscle disease (cardiomyopathy) caused by hereditary or wild-type transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis, to reduce cardiovascular deaths, cardiovascular hospitalizations and urgent heart failure visits. It works by breaking down the genetic messages used to make transthyretin, reducing this protein in the blood and its deposits in tissues.
What it treats
- Polyneuropathy (nerve damage) caused by hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis in adults. - Cardiomyopathy (heart muscle disease) caused by wild-type or hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis in adults, to reduce cardiovascular death, cardiovascular hospital admissions and urgent heart failure visits.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects of Amvuttra include pain in the arms or legs, joint pain, shortness of breath and reduced vitamin A levels. Each was reported in at least 5% of patients. Reduced vitamin A levels are an important safety concern. Contact your doctor if you develop eye symptoms that could suggest vitamin A deficiency; the label recommends referral to an eye specialist. Vitamin A supplementation is recommended during treatment, ask your prescriber for guidance.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
The FDA label lists no contraindications for Amvuttra. Amvuttra can lower vitamin A levels in the blood. Vitamin A supplementation is recommended; your prescriber should advise on the amount. If eye symptoms suggestive of vitamin A deficiency occur, referral to an eye specialist is recommended.
