About Univasc
Overview
Univasc contains moexipril hydrochloride, a prescription medicine in the ACE inhibitor group. It is used to treat high blood pressure, either alone or with a thiazide diuretic. It works by reducing the formation of a substance that narrows blood vessels, helping to lower blood pressure.
What it treats
High blood pressure (hypertension), alone or in combination with thiazide diuretics.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include cough, dizziness, diarrhea, flu-like symptoms, tiredness, sore throat, flushing, rash and muscle pain. Serious risks include severe allergic reactions, swelling called angioedema, low blood pressure, low levels of certain white blood cells and high blood potassium. Seek urgent medical help for a severe allergic reaction or angioedema, and contact your doctor promptly about other serious side effects. The label also warns of harm or death to an unborn or newborn baby with use during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. Contact your doctor promptly if you become pregnant while taking Univasc.

Before taking this medicine
Do not take Univasc if you are allergic to moexipril hydrochloride or any ingredient in the product, or if you have previously had angioedema (swelling under the skin) related to treatment with an ACE inhibitor. If you have diabetes, do not take Univasc together with aliskiren.

Dosing

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
