About Skyrizi
Overview
Skyrizi contains risankizumab, a monoclonal antibody medicine. It treats moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in adults and children aged 6 years and older who are candidates for systemic treatment or light therapy, and active psoriatic arthritis in the same age groups. It also treats moderately to severely active Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis in adults. It works by blocking IL-23, a protein involved in immune responses, and reducing the release of substances that promote inflammation.
What it treats
- Moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in adults and children aged 6 years and older who are candidates for systemic treatment or phototherapy. - Active psoriatic arthritis in adults and children aged 6 years and older. - Moderately to severely active Crohn’s disease in adults. - Moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis in adults.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects vary by the condition being treated and the treatment phase: For plaque psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis: upper respiratory infections, headache, tiredness, reactions at the injection site and fungal skin infections (tinea). For Crohn’s disease: upper respiratory infections, headache and joint pain during initial treatment. During maintenance treatment, common effects include joint pain, abdominal pain, injection site reactions, anemia, fever, back pain, joint problems and urinary tract infections. For ulcerative colitis: joint pain during initial treatment. During maintenance treatment, common effects include joint pain, fever, injection site reactions and rash. Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, may occur and require urgent medical attention. Skyrizi may increase the risk of infection. Contact a doctor if signs or symptoms of a significant infection occur; Skyrizi should not be given until the infection resolves. Drug-induced liver injury has been reported during initial treatment for inflammatory bowel disease. Liver enzymes and bilirubin must be monitored before treatment, during initial treatment through at least 12 weeks, and afterwards as part of routine care. Contact your doctor if liver injury is suspected.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Skyrizi if you have had a serious allergic reaction to risankizumab or any of its other ingredients. Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, may occur. Skyrizi may increase the risk of infection. Seek medical advice if you develop signs or symptoms of a significant infection. If one develops, Skyrizi should not be given until the infection has resolved. You should be evaluated for tuberculosis (TB) before starting treatment. Liver injury has been reported during initial treatment for inflammatory bowel disease. Liver enzymes and bilirubin should be checked before treatment and monitored during initial treatment for at least 12 weeks, then as part of routine care. Avoid live vaccines during treatment.
Interactions
Tell your doctor about all medicines, vitamins, herbal products and supplements you take, especially other biologic treatments or medicines that suppress the immune system. Combining immune-suppressing treatments may increase the risk of infection. Avoid live vaccines during Skyrizi treatment. Check with your doctor before any vaccination, as some vaccines may need to be given before treatment begins. No specific food interactions are well established.

Dosing
Dosing is set by your prescriber. Each health care professional may prescribe medication differently according to a patient's medical history and condition, so follow the directions on your prescription label and speak to your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.
Storage
Store in the original carton to protect it from light. Check the pack for whether it must be refrigerated before first use and how long it may be kept at room temperature afterwards. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
