About Ruconest
Overview
Ruconest is a recombinant C1 esterase inhibitor supplied as a powder in a single-use vial for preparation and injection into a vein. It treats acute attacks of hereditary angioedema (HAE) in adults and adolescents. It provides a manufactured version of a human protein that blocks the activity of the enzyme C1 esterase. Its effectiveness has not been established for HAE attacks affecting the voice box (larynx).

Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects reported in clinical trials include headache, nausea and diarrhea. Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, can occur. If an allergic reaction occurs, stop Ruconest and seek immediate medical attention. Serious blood clots in arteries and veins have been reported with plasma-derived C1 esterase inhibitor products in patients with risk factors. Patients with known risk factors for blood clots should be monitored during and after Ruconest administration.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Ruconest if you have a known or suspected allergy to rabbits or rabbit-derived products, or a history of an immediate allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis, to C1 esterase inhibitor products. Severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, may occur with Ruconest. If symptoms occur, treatment must be stopped and appropriate medical care given. Patients with known risk factors for blood clots need monitoring during and after Ruconest administration. Serious blood clots in arteries and veins have been reported with plasma-derived C1 esterase inhibitor products in patients with these risk factors.

Storage
Store in the original carton below 25°C, protected from light, unless the pack states refrigeration. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
