Qvar

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Qvar if you are allergic to beclomethasone dipropionate or any of its ingredients. It must not be used as the main treatment for a severe or prolonged asthma attack requiring intensive treatment. Qvar is not for relief of sudden asthma symptoms. Rapidly worsening asthma needs immediate medical reassessment. Tell your prescriber if you are switching from oral steroids, as this can impair adrenal gland function. Qvar may also cause excess corticosteroid effects or adrenal suppression in susceptible people. Use with caution if you have tuberculosis, a fungal, bacterial, viral or parasitic infection, or herpes simplex infection of the eye, as these may worsen. Chickenpox or measles can be more serious or even fatal in susceptible patients. Qvar can cause thrush in the mouth and throat. Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after inhalation. Children’s growth should be monitored. Monitoring is also needed for people with major risk factors for reduced bone density, vision changes, or a history of raised eye pressure, blurred vision, glaucoma or cataracts. Stop using Qvar if an allergic reaction occurs, such as hives, swelling, rash or airway tightening. If wheezing increases immediately after use, stop Qvar and treat it immediately with an inhaled short-acting bronchodilator.
