About Quibron
Overview
Quibron contains theophylline, a medicine known as a bronchodilator. It treats symptoms and reversible airway narrowing associated with chronic asthma and other chronic lung diseases, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis. It works by widening the airways in the lungs.

Safety information
Side effects
Side effects include nausea, vomiting, headache and difficulty sleeping. Diarrhea, irritability, restlessness, mild muscle tremors and a temporary increase in urination have also been reported. Some effects may persist during treatment, even when blood levels are within the therapeutic range. Contact your doctor if side effects persist. Seek urgent medical help for persistent vomiting, a rapid or irregular heartbeat, or seizures. High blood levels of theophylline can cause life-threatening heart rhythm problems and seizures. Seizures have also been reported at lower blood levels in older adults and people with underlying neurological disease. Certain abnormal heart rhythms have been reported in people with COPD and low blood oxygen, even at blood levels within the therapeutic range.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not take Quibron if you have a history of an allergic reaction to theophylline or any other ingredient in the product.
Interactions
Theophylline interacts with many medicines. Starting or stopping another medicine can change theophylline blood levels, sometimes causing toxicity or reducing its effect. Check with your doctor before making changes; blood-level monitoring and treatment adjustments may be needed. Medicines that can raise theophylline levels include cimetidine; antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin, clarithromycin and erythromycin; fluvoxamine; disulfiram; estrogen-containing oral contraceptives; methotrexate; mexiletine; pentoxifylline; propranolol; and verapamil. A large amount of alcohol taken at once can also raise levels. Carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin and rifampin can lower theophylline levels. Stopping these medicines can allow theophylline to build up to potentially toxic levels. Theophylline can also lower blood levels of phenytoin and lithium. Other important interactions include: • Diazepam, lorazepam, midazolam and flurazepam: theophylline can reduce their sedating effect. Stopping theophylline without reviewing these medicines may cause dangerously slowed breathing. • Ephedrine: nausea, nervousness and difficulty sleeping may become more frequent. • Ketamine: seizure risk may increase. • Halothane: the risk of abnormal heart rhythms may increase. • Adenosine and pancuronium: their effects may be reduced. • Propranolol and propafenone: these may reduce theophylline’s effect as well as raise its blood levels. This is not a complete list. An unlisted medicine should not be assumed safe to combine with theophylline; ask your doctor to check for interactions.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
