Before taking this medicine

Do not use Flovent Diskus if you have a severe allergy to milk proteins or a known allergy to fluticasone propionate. It must not be used as the primary treatment for a severe or acute asthma attack requiring intensive treatment. Tell your prescriber if you have tuberculosis, a fungal, bacterial, viral or parasitic infection, or herpes simplex affecting the eye. These infections may worsen with treatment. Chickenpox or measles can be more serious, or even fatal, in susceptible people. Extra care is needed when switching from systemic corticosteroids because adrenal function may be impaired. Excess corticosteroid effects and adrenal suppression can also occur during treatment. Any changes to corticosteroid treatment should be managed by your prescriber. Treatment may require checks for reduced bone mineral density, monitoring of growth in children, and eye assessment for glaucoma or cataracts, particularly with long-term use or eye symptoms. People with liver impairment should be monitored for signs of increased drug exposure. Thrush in the mouth or throat may occur. Rinse your mouth with water without swallowing after inhalation to help reduce this risk.
