About Edarbi
Overview
Edarbi is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used to treat high blood pressure in adults. It contains azilsartan medoxomil, which is converted to azilsartan during absorption. Azilsartan blocks the effects of angiotensin II that tighten blood vessels, helping to lower blood pressure. Edarbi may be used alone or with other blood pressure medicines.

Side effects
Diarrhea is the most common side effect reported in adults. Kidney function may worsen in people who already have kidney impairment. Contact your doctor if you have kidney problems; monitoring is needed to check for worsening kidney function. Low fluid or salt levels should be corrected before starting Edarbi.

Before taking this medicine
Do not take Edarbi with any medicine containing aliskiren if you have diabetes. Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking Edarbi. Fluid or salt depletion must be corrected before treatment, as Edarbi can cause excessively low blood pressure in these circumstances. People with impaired kidney function need monitoring for worsening kidney function. In susceptible people, including those with narrowing of the arteries supplying the kidneys, Edarbi can cause kidney failure. People aged 75 or older were more likely to have abnormally high blood creatinine levels. Some older people may be more sensitive to Edarbi.
Interactions
Tell your doctor if you take lithium or another medicine that acts on the renin-angiotensin system. Taking Edarbi with lithium can raise lithium levels in the blood and increase the risk of lithium toxicity. Combining Edarbi with another medicine that blocks the renin-angiotensin system increases the risk of kidney problems, low blood pressure and high blood potassium.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
