Asmanex

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Asmanex if you are allergic to milk proteins or any of its ingredients. It must not be used to treat a severe asthma attack requiring intensive treatment and is not for relief of sudden asthma symptoms. Rapidly worsening asthma needs immediate medical reassessment. Tell your prescriber if you have tuberculosis, a fungal, bacterial, viral or parasitic infection, or herpes simplex affecting the eye. Asmanex may worsen these infections. Chickenpox or measles can be more serious or even fatal in susceptible people. Extra caution and monitoring may be needed if you are switching from oral steroids, have risk factors for low bone mineral density, or use Asmanex long term. It may impair adrenal function, cause excess corticosteroid effects, reduce bone mineral density, slow growth in children, or cause glaucoma or cataracts. Children’s growth should be monitored, and eye symptoms may require assessment by an eye specialist. Tell your prescriber if you take ritonavir or another strong CYP3A4 inhibitor, as these may increase corticosteroid effects throughout the body. Asmanex can cause thrush in the mouth or throat. Rinse your mouth with water after use and spit it out without swallowing. Stop using Asmanex and seek immediate medical help if an allergic reaction occurs. Sudden worsening of breathing immediately after use requires prompt treatment with a fast-acting inhaled bronchodilator and stopping Asmanex.
