Ampyra

Before taking this medicine

Do not take Ampyra if you have ever had a seizure, have moderate or severe kidney impairment (creatinine clearance of 50 mL/min or less), or have had an allergic reaction to Ampyra or 4-aminopyridine. Ampyra can cause seizures and anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction. If either occurs, stop taking Ampyra and do not restart it. Seizure risk increases with higher doses. Do not take it with other medicines containing 4-aminopyridine (also called 4-AP or fampridine), as the active ingredient is the same. Ampyra may harm an unborn baby, based on animal studies. Discuss use during pregnancy with your prescriber. Older adults are more likely to have reduced kidney function, so checking estimated creatinine clearance before starting treatment is particularly important.
