Alvesco

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Alvesco if you are allergic to ciclesonide or any of its ingredients. Allergic reactions may include swelling of the lips, tongue or throat. Alvesco must not be used as the main treatment for a severe or acute asthma attack requiring intensive treatment. Extra caution and monitoring are needed if you: • Have tuberculosis, a fungal, bacterial, viral or parasitic infection, or herpes simplex infection of the eye, as these may worsen. • Are susceptible to chickenpox or measles, which may become more serious or even fatal. • Are switching from oral steroids to Alvesco, because adrenal function may be impaired. Your prescriber should supervise this change. • Have a history of glaucoma, increased eye pressure or cataracts, or develop changes in vision. Alvesco can cause a fungal infection in the mouth or throat. Rinse your mouth after inhalation and have your mouth checked periodically. It may also cause excessive corticosteroid effects or suppress adrenal function, including during usual use in susceptible people. Children receiving Alvesco should have their growth monitored regularly.
