About ALBUTEIN
Overview
ALBUTEIN is a human albumin solution made from pooled human plasma and given into a vein. It is used for low blood volume and low blood albumin levels, and during heart-lung bypass procedures and plasma exchange. Albumin helps keep fluid in the bloodstream to stabilize circulating blood volume and carries substances such as hormones and medicines.

Safety information
Side effects
The most common side effects are allergic-type reactions. Serious reactions include anaphylactic shock (a severe allergic reaction), heart failure and pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs). Seek immediate medical attention if a severe allergic reaction is suspected. The infusion must be stopped immediately and appropriate treatment started. Excess fluid in the bloodstream can also occur and may be especially risky for some patients. Your healthcare team will monitor your fluid balance, circulation, electrolytes and blood tests during treatment.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
ALBUTEIN must not be used in people who are allergic to human albumin preparations or any of its other ingredients. It must not be used in people with severe anemia or heart failure when the volume of blood in circulation is normal or increased. Use caution in conditions where excess fluid in the circulation or dilution of the blood could pose a particular risk. During treatment, healthcare professionals should monitor circulation, electrolyte levels, blood counts and blood clotting. If an allergic reaction or anaphylaxis is suspected, the infusion must be stopped immediately and appropriate medical treatment started.
Interactions
ALBUTEIN must not be mixed with other medicines.

Dosing

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place with the bottle tightly closed, away from direct light and moisture. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
