Before taking this medicine

Do not take Agamree if you have a known allergy to vamorolone or any of its inactive ingredients. Severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, have occurred with corticosteroid treatment. Conditions requiring caution include infections, high blood pressure, sodium or potassium imbalances, certain gastrointestinal disorders, mood or behavioural problems, reduced bone density, cataracts and glaucoma. Agamree can increase the risk of new infections or worsen or reactivate existing infections; these may be severe or fatal, and signs of infection may be masked. It can also increase the risk of a hole in the stomach or intestinal wall in people with certain gastrointestinal disorders and may mask the symptoms. Long-term treatment can suppress the body’s natural steroid hormone production, cause Cushing-like changes and raise blood sugar. Monitoring may be needed for these effects, blood pressure, sodium and potassium levels, bone density and pressure inside the eyes. Mood and behavioural effects can include sleep problems, mood swings, severe depression and psychosis. Live or live-attenuated vaccines must not be given during treatment that suppresses the immune system. These vaccines should be given at least 4 to 6 weeks before starting Agamree.
