Zyvox

Before taking this medicine

Do not take Zyvox if you are allergic to linezolid or any other ingredient, or if you are taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or have taken one within the past two weeks. Zyvox can reduce blood cell counts. Complete blood counts should be checked weekly. Low platelet counts have been reported more often in people with severe kidney impairment or moderate to severe liver impairment. Your prescriber may consider stopping treatment if blood cell counts fall or an existing problem worsens. Other precautions include: • Nerve damage, including damage affecting vision, reported mainly with treatment lasting longer than 28 days. Any visual symptoms require prompt assessment by an eye specialist. • Serotonin syndrome when taken with medicines that affect serotonin. Monitoring is needed, and treatment may need to be stopped if symptoms occur. • Interactions that can raise blood pressure. Blood pressure monitoring is recommended. • Low blood sugar in people with diabetes taking insulin or oral blood-sugar-lowering medicines. • Low blood sodium or inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH). People at risk need regular sodium checks. • Diarrhoea associated with Clostridioides difficile, which requires assessment. • Rhabdomyolysis, a serious breakdown of muscle tissue. If signs or symptoms occur, Zyvox must be stopped and appropriate treatment started. An investigational study in people with catheter-related bloodstream infections found an imbalance in deaths among those treated with linezolid.
