About Zylet
Overview
Zylet is an eye drop suspension containing loteprednol etabonate, a corticosteroid, and tobramycin, an antibiotic. It is used for eye inflammation that requires a corticosteroid when a bacterial infection on the eye’s surface is present or there is a risk of one. Loteprednol reduces inflammation, while tobramycin acts against bacteria that are susceptible to it.
What it treats
Zylet is used for eye inflammation that requires a corticosteroid when a surface bacterial eye infection is present or there is a risk of one. Conditions include: • Allergic conjunctivitis and eye inflammation associated with acne rosacea • Superficial punctate keratitis and herpes zoster keratitis • Iritis, cyclitis and chronic anterior uveitis • Corneal injury from chemical, radiation or heat burns, or penetration by foreign bodies
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects reported with Zylet include eye redness, inflammation affecting the surface of the cornea, increased pressure inside the eye, and burning or stinging when the drops are applied. Headache was also reported. Less common effects include vision disturbances, eye discharge, itching, changes in tearing, sensitivity to light, eye discomfort and eyelid problems. Contact your doctor if you develop vision changes, eyelid itching or swelling, worsening eye symptoms, or symptoms that have not improved after two days. These may need assessment for an allergic reaction, infection or other eye problem. Serious risks include increased eye pressure and glaucoma with optic nerve damage or loss of vision, cataracts, delayed healing, and perforation of the eye where the cornea or outer white layer is thinned. Steroids can mask or worsen existing infections and increase the risk of new bacterial, viral or fungal eye infections, including herpes simplex. If Zylet is used for 10 days or longer, eye pressure should be monitored.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Zylet if you have most viral infections of the cornea or conjunctiva, including epithelial herpes simplex keratitis, vaccinia or varicella, or if you have a mycobacterial or fungal infection of the eye. Particular caution is needed if you have a history of herpes simplex eye infection, as steroid treatment may prolong or worsen viral eye infections. Steroids may also mask or worsen bacterial infections and increase the risk of secondary eye infections. Long-term use may allow fungal infections of the cornea to develop. Prolonged use may raise eye pressure and cause glaucoma, optic nerve damage or vision problems. Eye pressure should be monitored if Zylet is used for 10 days or longer. Steroid use may also cause cataracts. Caution is needed after cataract surgery because steroids may delay healing and increase bleb formation. If the cornea or sclera is thinned, topical steroids may cause a perforation. A physician should examine your eyes before the initial prescription and any renewal. If signs and symptoms do not improve after 2 days, you should be reassessed.

Storage
Store below 25°C away from direct light. Once opened, follow the in-use period printed on the pack and do not let the dropper touch the eye or any surface. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
