Xtandi

Before taking this medicine

The FDA label lists no formal contraindications for Xtandi (enzalutamide). However, important precautions apply: • Seizures: Caution is needed in people with factors that increase seizure risk. Xtandi must be permanently stopped if a seizure occurs during treatment. • Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES): Treatment must be stopped if this condition develops. • Hypersensitivity reactions: Treatment must be stopped if a hypersensitivity reaction occurs. • Ischemic heart disease: Cardiovascular risk factors should be managed. Treatment must be stopped for severe ischemic heart disease reactions. • Falls and fractures: Fall and fracture risk should be assessed, with bone-targeted treatment used when appropriate. • Pregnancy risk: Xtandi can harm an unborn baby and cause pregnancy loss. Men with female partners who could become pregnant should use effective contraception. • Swallowing difficulty: Capsules or tablets may cause severe difficulty swallowing or choking because of their size. Treatment must be stopped in patients who cannot swallow them. • Digoxin testing: Xtandi can interfere with certain blood tests for digoxin, causing falsely high results.
