About Xalatan
Overview
Xalatan is an eye drop solution containing latanoprost, a prostaglandin analogue. It is used to lower raised pressure inside the eye in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It is believed to work by increasing the drainage of fluid from inside the eye, which lowers eye pressure.

Side effects
Common side effects reported in 5–15% of people in clinical trials include blurred vision, burning or stinging, eye redness, a feeling that something is in the eye, itching, increased iris pigmentation (darkening of the coloured part of the eye), and punctate keratitis (small areas of inflammation on the eye’s surface). Contact a doctor if you develop inflammation inside the eye (iritis or uveitis) or macular edema, including cystoid macular edema (swelling in the central part of the retina). Xalatan can also darken the eyelid skin and eyelashes. Iris colour changes are likely to be permanent. Eyelashes may gradually become longer, thicker, darker or more numerous; these eyelash changes are usually reversible.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Xalatan if you have a known allergy to latanoprost, benzalkonium chloride or any other ingredient in the product. Xalatan may darken the iris (the coloured part of the eye), eyelid skin and eyelashes. Changes to iris colour are likely to be permanent. Eyelashes may gradually become longer, thicker or more numerous; these changes are usually reversible.
Using Xalatan
Dosing
Dosing is set by your prescriber. Each health care professional may prescribe medication differently according to a patient's medical history and condition, so follow the directions on your prescription label and speak to your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.
Storage
Store below 25°C away from direct light. Once opened, follow the in-use period printed on the pack and do not let the dropper touch the eye or any surface. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
