About Monoprost
Overview
Monoprost is a prescription eye medicine containing latanoprost. It is used to reduce raised pressure inside the eye in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It works by helping fluid drain out of the eye, lowering the pressure inside it.

Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include eye redness, burning or stinging, itching, a gritty feeling in the eye and temporary blurred vision. Eyelashes may become longer, thicker or darker. The skin around the eyes may darken, and the iris, the coloured part of the eye, may gradually become browner. Iris colour changes can be permanent. Contact a doctor promptly if you develop eye pain, marked redness, sensitivity to light, or persistent or worsening vision changes. These may indicate eye inflammation or swelling at the back of the eye. Seek urgent medical help for difficulty breathing or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, which may indicate a serious allergic reaction.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Monoprost if you are allergic to latanoprost or any of its other ingredients. It should be avoided during an active herpes simplex infection of the cornea. Tell your prescriber if you have asthma, inflammation inside the eye, a history of herpes infection affecting the eye, or risk factors for macular oedema (swelling in the central retina). Extra caution is needed if your natural lens is absent, or if you have an artificial lens with a damaged lens capsule. Monoprost should not be used during pregnancy. If you are breastfeeding, discuss an alternative treatment or stopping breastfeeding with your prescriber.
Interactions
Tell your doctor about all medicines, eye treatments and supplements you use. Using latanoprost with another prostaglandin-type eye medicine can unexpectedly increase eye pressure, so this combination is not recommended. Eye drops containing thiomersal (thimerosal) may form particles when mixed with latanoprost. If you use these drops, ask your doctor or pharmacist how to use them safely together.

Storage
Store below 25°C away from direct light. Once opened, follow the in-use period printed on the pack and do not let the dropper touch the eye or any surface. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
