About Voranigo

Overview

Voranigo is a prescription tablet containing vorasidenib. It is used after surgery, including biopsy, to treat Grade 2 astrocytoma or oligodendroglioma in adults and children aged 12 years and older whose tumour has a susceptible IDH1 or IDH2 mutation confirmed by an FDA-approved test. It works by blocking the IDH1 and IDH2 enzymes.

- Grade 2 astrocytoma or oligodendroglioma in adults and children aged 12 years and older with a susceptible IDH1 or IDH2 mutation confirmed by an FDA-approved test, following surgery, including biopsy or partial or complete tumour removal.

Safety information

Side effects

Common side effects include tiredness, headache, COVID-19, muscle and bone pain, diarrhea, nausea and seizures. Voranigo can cause serious liver problems, including liver failure, liver tissue damage and autoimmune hepatitis. Contact your doctor about seizures or concerns about liver problems. Liver blood tests are needed every 2 weeks for the first 2 months, then monthly for the first 2 years, and as clinically needed. Severe blood test changes can include increased liver enzymes and reduced neutrophils, a type of white blood cell. Voranigo can harm an unborn baby. Use effective nonhormonal contraception and contact your doctor if you become pregnant.

When to call your doctor

- Seek medical attention immediately if you have a seizure.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.

Before taking this medicine

The FDA label lists no contraindications for Voranigo. However, it can cause serious liver injury, including liver failure, liver tissue damage and autoimmune hepatitis. Liver function tests are required every 2 weeks for the first 2 months, then monthly for the first 2 years, and as clinically needed. Depending on severity, the prescriber may pause, adjust or stop treatment. Voranigo can harm an unborn baby. Effective nonhormonal contraception should be used. Do not breastfeed during treatment. Voranigo may also impair fertility in males and females.

Interactions

Tell your doctor about all medicines you take. Voranigo should not be used with strong or moderate CYP1A2 inhibitors, moderate CYP1A2 inducers, or certain medicines processed by CYP3A where even a small change in their level could reduce their effectiveness. Your doctor can check whether these interactions apply to your medicines. Avoid smoking tobacco while taking Voranigo. Voranigo may reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraception. If using them together cannot be avoided, use a nonhormonal contraceptive method.

Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
