About Vigamox
Overview
Vigamox is a sterile 0.5% eye drop solution containing moxifloxacin hydrochloride. It treats bacterial conjunctivitis caused by bacteria that are susceptible to this medicine. Moxifloxacin acts against these bacteria and belongs to a group of anti-infective medicines called fluoroquinolones.

Side effects
The most frequently reported eye side effects affected about 1%–6% of patients in clinical trials. These included conjunctivitis, reduced sharpness of vision, dry eyes, inflammation of the cornea, eye discomfort, redness, pain, itching, bleeding under the clear surface of the eye, and watering. Other reported effects, affecting 1%–4%, included fever, increased cough, infection, middle ear infection, throat inflammation, rash, and a runny or inflamed nose. Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been reported with systemic moxifloxacin use, rather than specifically with these eye drops. Seek urgent medical help if a serious allergic reaction occurs. Prolonged use of Vigamox may allow organisms not affected by the medicine, including fungi, to overgrow and cause a new infection. Contact your doctor if a new infection develops; the label advises stopping Vigamox and using an alternative treatment if this occurs.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Vigamox if you have a history of an allergic reaction to moxifloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics or any ingredient in this medicine. Allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been reported with systemic use of moxifloxacin. Prolonged use of Vigamox may allow organisms not affected by the medicine, including fungi, to overgrow. If a new infection develops, Vigamox should be stopped and alternative treatment started. Do not wear contact lenses if you have signs or symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis.
Interactions
Drug interaction studies have not been conducted with Vigamox. Laboratory studies suggest that moxifloxacin is unlikely to affect how the body processes medicines broken down by certain liver enzymes (CYP3A4, CYP2D6, CYP2C9, CYP2C19 and CYP1A2).

Dosing

Storage
Store below 25°C away from direct light. Once opened, follow the in-use period printed on the pack and do not let the dropper touch the eye or any surface. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
