About Valchlor
Overview
Valchlor is a gel containing mechlorethamine hydrochloride for use on the skin. It treats Stage IA and IB mycosis fungoides-type cutaneous T-cell lymphoma in patients who have previously received skin-directed treatment. Mechlorethamine works by inhibiting the growth of rapidly multiplying cells.

Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include skin inflammation (dermatitis), itching, bacterial skin infections, skin ulcers or blisters, and darkening of the skin. Contact your doctor if you develop redness, swelling, inflammation, itching, blisters, ulcers or signs of a skin infection. Your prescriber may need to stop treatment or adjust how often you use Valchlor. Contact with the eyes or other mucous membranes can cause severe injury. Eye injury may lead to blindness. If exposure occurs, immediately rinse the affected area for at least 15 minutes and seek immediate medical care. Non-melanoma skin cancer is a serious risk. Your doctor should monitor you for this during and after treatment. Valchlor may harm an unborn baby; contact your doctor if you are pregnant or become pregnant during treatment. Other people must avoid skin contact with Valchlor. The gel is flammable; avoid fire, flames and smoking until it has dried.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Valchlor if you have a known severe allergy to mechlorethamine. Severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, have occurred with mechlorethamine applied to the skin. Valchlor may harm an unborn baby. Do not breastfeed during treatment. Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes. Exposure can cause severe injury; eye injury may lead to blindness. If exposure occurs, rinse immediately for at least 15 minutes and seek immediate medical advice. Anyone other than the patient must avoid skin contact with Valchlor. Monitor for redness, swelling, inflammation, itching, blisters, skin ulcers or skin infections. These may require treatment to be stopped or adjusted by the prescriber. Monitoring for non-melanoma skin cancer is needed during and after treatment. Valchlor gel is alcohol-based and flammable. Avoid fire, flames and smoking until the gel has dried.
Interactions
No drug interaction studies have been performed with Valchlor. Systemic exposure (medicine reaching the bloodstream) has not been observed with topical use, so interactions with medicines elsewhere in the body are considered unlikely.

Dosing

Storage
Store below 25°C with the cap closed, away from direct light and heat. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
