About Toviaz
Overview
Toviaz is a prescription extended-release tablet containing fesoterodine fumarate. It treats overactive bladder in adults with symptoms of sudden urges to urinate, frequent urination and leakage associated with urgency. It is also used to treat neurogenic detrusor overactivity in children aged 6 years and older who weigh more than 25 kg. It is thought to work by blocking receptors involved in bladder muscle contractions.

Safety information
Side effects
The most commonly reported side effects in adults with overactive bladder are dry mouth and constipation. In children with neurogenic detrusor overactivity, commonly reported side effects include diarrhea, urinary tract infection, dry mouth, constipation, abdominal pain, nausea, weight gain and headache. Serious side effects include angioedema (swelling), urinary retention (difficulty emptying the bladder) and reduced movement through the digestive tract. Stop taking Toviaz and seek urgent medical care if angioedema occurs. Contact a doctor promptly if you have difficulty emptying your bladder or develop severe constipation. Toviaz may also worsen narrow-angle glaucoma or symptoms of myasthenia gravis; contact your doctor if these conditions worsen. Sleepiness has been reported. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Toviaz affects you.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not take Toviaz if you have a known or suspected allergy to fesoterodine, any of its ingredients or tolterodine tartrate; urinary retention (inability to empty your bladder); gastric retention (when your stomach does not empty properly); or uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma. Toviaz is not recommended if you have significant blockage at the bladder outlet or reduced movement through the stomach and intestines, such as severe constipation. Caution is needed if you are being treated for narrow-angle glaucoma or have myasthenia gravis, as symptoms may worsen. Toviaz can cause angioedema (swelling beneath the skin). Stop taking it and seek medical help promptly if this occurs. Drowsiness has also been reported. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Toviaz affects you.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
