Before taking this medicine

Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to tobramycin, dexamethasone or any other ingredient. It must not be used in most viral infections of the cornea or conjunctiva, including epithelial herpes simplex keratitis, vaccinia and varicella, or in mycobacterial or fungal infections of the eye. Extra caution is needed if you have a history of herpes simplex eye infection, thinning of the cornea or sclera, or have recently had cataract surgery. Steroids may worsen viral infections, delay healing and cause perforation in thinned eye tissues. Sensitivity to locally applied aminoglycoside antibiotics may occur. Prolonged steroid use may raise eye pressure, cause glaucoma with optic nerve damage and vision loss, or lead to cataracts. Eye pressure should be monitored if treatment lasts 10 days or longer. Steroids may also mask or worsen bacterial infections and increase the risk of secondary eye infections, including fungal infections. Seek reassessment if symptoms do not improve after two days. A persistent corneal ulcer requires assessment for possible fungal infection. A physician should examine the eye before prescribing or renewing treatment. Vision may be temporarily blurred after use; take care when driving or operating machinery.
