About Tivicay
Overview
Tivicay is a prescription medicine containing dolutegravir. It is used with other antiretroviral medicines to treat HIV-1 infection. It works by blocking HIV-1 integrase activity and belongs to a group of medicines called integrase inhibitors.
What it treats
HIV-1 infection, in combination with other antiretroviral medicines, in adults and children weighing at least 2 kg. Children must not have previously received an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI). HIV-1 infection in adults, in combination with rilpivirine, to replace a stable antiretroviral regimen when HIV-1 RNA has remained below 50 copies/mL for at least 6 months, with no history of treatment failure or known resistance-associated changes to either medicine.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include trouble sleeping (insomnia), tiredness (fatigue) and headache. Serious side effects include allergic reactions, liver injury and immune reconstitution syndrome. Stop taking Tivicay and seek medical help immediately if signs of an allergic reaction develop, such as a rash with other symptoms of illness. These reactions can affect organs, including the liver, and delaying treatment withdrawal may lead to a life-threatening reaction. Liver injury has been reported. People with hepatitis B or C may have a greater risk of new or worsening liver enzyme elevations. Contact your doctor about liver-related concerns; monitoring for liver injury is recommended. Immune reconstitution syndrome has been reported with combination antiretroviral treatment. Contact your doctor if you develop new or worsening symptoms during treatment.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not take Tivicay if you have previously had an allergic reaction to dolutegravir or if you take dofetilide. Tivicay can increase dofetilide levels, which may cause serious or life-threatening effects. Serious allergic reactions have been reported, including rash, other symptoms affecting the whole body, and sometimes organ damage, including liver injury. Stop Tivicay and seek medical help immediately if signs of an allergic reaction develop; delaying treatment withdrawal may lead to a life-threatening reaction. Liver toxicity has been reported. People with hepatitis B or C may be at greater risk of new or worsening liver enzyme elevations. Monitoring for liver toxicity is recommended. Immune reconstitution syndrome, an inflammatory response as the immune system recovers, has been reported with combination antiretroviral treatment.
Interactions
Some medicines that speed up drug breakdown can lower dolutegravir levels in the blood. Ask your doctor to check your medicines for interactions. Tell your doctor if you take mineral-containing antacids or laxatives, sucralfate, calcium or iron supplements, or buffered medicines. These require separation from Tivicay; ask your doctor about timing. Calcium or iron supplements can be taken at the same time as Tivicay when taken with food.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
