About Isenrtess
Overview
Isentress tablets contain raltegravir, an antiviral medicine. It is used with other antiretroviral medicines to treat HIV-1 infection. Raltegravir works by blocking the activity of HIV-1 integrase.
What it treats
Treatment of HIV-1 infection in combination with other antiretroviral medicines.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include difficulty sleeping, headache, dizziness, nausea and tiredness. Serious reactions include severe skin reactions and allergic reactions, which can be life-threatening or fatal. These include Stevens–Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis. Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical attention if you develop a severe rash, a severe allergic reaction, or a rash with symptoms affecting other parts of the body. Increased levels of the muscle enzyme creatine kinase, muscle disease and serious muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis) have been reported. Contact a doctor promptly if you develop muscle symptoms. Extra caution is needed if you have a history of these problems or take other medicines that can cause them. Your doctor should also monitor you for immune reconstitution syndrome, an immune-system reaction that can occur during treatment.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
The label lists no contraindications. However, severe, potentially life-threatening or fatal skin and allergic reactions have been reported, including Stevens–Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis. Stop taking raltegravir immediately if a severe allergic reaction, severe rash, or rash with symptoms affecting other parts of the body or raised liver enzymes develops. Close medical monitoring, including liver enzyme checks, is needed. Monitoring for immune reconstitution syndrome is also recommended. Women with HIV should not breastfeed because of the risk of passing HIV to the baby.
Interactions
Other medicines may change the amount of raltegravir in your blood. Rifampin and other medicines that strongly increase the activity of an enzyme called UGT1A1 may lower raltegravir levels. Discuss your medicines with your doctor before starting Isentress and whenever your medicines change during treatment.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
