About Tecentriq
Overview
Tecentriq (atezolizumab) is an antibody medicine for cancer, given into a vein. It is used alone or with other cancer medicines in selected patients with lung cancer, liver cancer, melanoma, alveolar soft part sarcoma or muscle-invasive bladder cancer. It blocks a protein called PD-L1, helping the immune system respond to cancer cells.
What it treats
- Non-small cell lung cancer in adults: certain stage II–IIIA cancers after surgery and platinum-based chemotherapy, or cancer that has spread. Use alone or with other medicines depends on tumor test results and previous treatment. - Extensive-stage small cell lung cancer in adults, with other cancer medicines as initial or maintenance treatment. - Hepatocellular carcinoma, a liver cancer, in adults when it cannot be removed by surgery or has spread and no previous systemic treatment has been given; used with bevacizumab. - Melanoma with a BRAF V600 mutation in adults when it cannot be removed by surgery or has spread; used with cobimetinib and vemurafenib. - Alveolar soft part sarcoma in adults and children aged 2 years and older when it cannot be removed by surgery or has spread. - Muscle-invasive bladder cancer in adults after bladder removal surgery, when an FDA-authorized blood test detects circulating tumor DNA indicating residual disease.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects depend on whether Tecentriq is used alone or with other cancer medicines. The following occurred in at least 20% of patients in the groups described in the label: When used alone: tiredness or weakness, reduced appetite, nausea, cough and shortness of breath. With other cancer medicines for non-small cell or small cell lung cancer: tiredness or weakness, nausea, hair loss, constipation, diarrhea and reduced appetite. With bevacizumab for liver cancer: high blood pressure, tiredness and protein in the urine. With cobimetinib and vemurafenib for melanoma: rash, muscle and bone pain, tiredness, liver toxicity, fever, nausea, itching, swelling, inflammation of the mouth, an underactive thyroid and sensitivity to sunlight. Contact a doctor promptly about serious side effects. Tecentriq can cause immune-related reactions in any organ or tissue that may be severe or fatal. These include inflammation of the lungs, bowel, liver or kidneys; kidney dysfunction; hormone gland disorders; skin reactions; and rejection of a transplanted organ. Blood tests are needed before and during treatment to monitor liver, kidney and thyroid function. Treatment may need to be paused or permanently stopped depending on the reaction. Reactions during the infusion may require the infusion to be slowed, interrupted or permanently stopped. Tell the treating team promptly if a reaction occurs. Serious or fatal complications can occur in people who have a stem cell transplant from a donor before or after treatment with this type of medicine. Tecentriq can harm an unborn baby. People who could become pregnant should use effective contraception and contact their doctor if pregnancy occurs.

Before taking this medicine
The FDA label lists no contraindications for Tecentriq. However, it can cause severe or fatal immune-related reactions affecting any organ or tissue, including the lungs, bowel, liver, hormone-producing glands, skin and kidneys. Rejection of a transplanted organ can also occur. Liver enzymes, kidney function and thyroid function should be checked before and periodically during treatment. Treatment may need to be paused or permanently stopped depending on the reaction. Infusion-related reactions may require the infusion to be slowed, interrupted or permanently stopped. Tell your healthcare team if you have received or will receive a stem cell transplant from a donor, as serious or fatal complications can occur. Tecentriq can harm an unborn baby. If you can become pregnant, use effective contraception. Do not breastfeed during treatment.

Dosing

Storage
Store in the original carton below 25°C, protected from light, unless the pack states refrigeration. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
