About Sylvant
Overview
Sylvant (siltuximab) is a monoclonal antibody medicine supplied in a vial for intravenous infusion. It is used to treat multicentric Castleman’s disease (MCD) in patients who are HIV-negative and human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8)-negative. It works by binding to interleukin-6 (IL-6) and blocking its action; excess IL-6 has been linked to symptoms of MCD throughout the body.

Side effects
Common side effects of Sylvant include rash, itching, upper respiratory tract infections, weight gain and high uric acid levels in the blood. Serious risks include severe infections, infusion-related reactions, hypersensitivity (allergic reactions), and gastrointestinal perforation (a hole in the stomach or bowel). Contact a doctor promptly if you suspect an infection or develop symptoms that could suggest gastrointestinal perforation. Tell the healthcare team immediately about any reaction during an infusion or suspected allergic reaction. Sylvant must not be given during a severe infection, and treatment must be interrupted until the infection resolves.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not use Sylvant if you have had a severe allergic reaction to siltuximab or any of its other ingredients. Sylvant must not be given during a severe active infection. Patients should be monitored for infections, treated promptly if an infection develops, and treatment interrupted until the infection resolves. Live vaccines must not be given during treatment. Sylvant may interfere with the normal immune response to new antigens. Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, and infusion-related reactions can occur. Sylvant must be given in a setting with equipment, medicines and trained staff available for emergency resuscitation. Symptoms suggesting a hole in the stomach or intestinal wall (gastrointestinal perforation) require prompt medical assessment. Sylvant may harm an unborn baby and requires caution during pregnancy.

Storage
