About Spectracef
Overview
Spectracef tablets contain cefditoren pivoxil, a cephalosporin antibiotic. It treats certain mild to moderate bacterial infections in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older, including bacterial flare-ups of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, strep throat or tonsillitis, and uncomplicated skin infections. During absorption, the body converts cefditoren pivoxil into cefditoren, the active antibiotic that treats infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
What it treats
For mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible bacteria in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older: • Acute bacterial worsening of chronic bronchitis • Community-acquired pneumonia • Pharyngitis or tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes • Uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections
Safety information
Before taking this medicine
Do not take Spectracef if you are allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics or any of its ingredients, or if you have carnitine deficiency or an inherited metabolic disorder that may cause clinically significant carnitine deficiency. Spectracef increases carnitine loss through the urine. Spectracef tablets contain sodium caseinate, a milk protein. Do not take them if you have a milk protein allergy. This is different from lactose intolerance.

Dosing

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
