Reyataz

Before taking this medicine

Do not take Reyataz if you have previously had a clinically significant allergic reaction to atazanavir or any capsule ingredient, including a serious skin reaction. Reyataz must not be taken with alfuzosin; carbamazepine, phenobarbital or phenytoin; rifampin; apalutamide, encorafenib, irinotecan or ivosidenib; pimozide; oral midazolam or triazolam; dihydroergotamine, ergonovine, ergotamine or methylergonovine; cisapride; elbasvir/grazoprevir or glecaprevir/pibrentasvir; St. John’s wort; lomitapide, lovastatin or simvastatin; indinavir; nevirapine; or sildenafil used as Revatio for pulmonary arterial hypertension. When Reyataz is taken with ritonavir, amiodarone, quinidine and lurasidone are also contraindicated. This is not a complete list: some interactions can cause serious or life-threatening effects, or make treatment less effective and lead to resistance. Reyataz is not recommended for people with severe liver impairment. Reyataz with ritonavir is not recommended for people with any degree of liver impairment. It is also not recommended for previously treated patients with end-stage kidney disease managed with hemodialysis. Particular caution is needed if you have heart conduction problems, take medicines that affect heart conduction, have hepatitis B or C, have kidney disease or a high risk of kidney disease, or have hemophilia. Heart monitoring may be considered, and liver and kidney laboratory tests should be monitored before and during treatment. Spontaneous bleeding may occur in people with hemophilia. Reyataz can cause severe skin reactions; stop taking it if a severe rash develops. Other concerns include kidney stones, gallstones, new or worsening diabetes or high blood sugar, immune reconstitution syndrome and changes in body fat distribution. Most patients develop increased indirect bilirubin without symptoms; this reverses after treatment is stopped. Progressive kidney disease may require discontinuation by the prescriber.
