Before taking this medicine

Do not take Relpax if you have: • Coronary artery disease, including angina, a previous heart attack or reduced blood flow to the heart, or spasms of the coronary arteries, including Prinzmetal’s angina. • Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome or heart rhythm problems linked to an extra electrical pathway in the heart. • A history of stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA), or current or previous hemiplegic or basilar migraine. • Peripheral vascular disease, ischaemic bowel disease or uncontrolled high blood pressure. • An allergy to Relpax. Severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis and angioedema, have occurred. Do not take Relpax within 24 hours of another 5-HT1 agonist migraine medicine or an ergot-type medicine, such as ergotamine, dihydroergotamine or methysergide. Do not take it if you have used ketoconazole, itraconazole, nefazodone, troleandomycin, clarithromycin, ritonavir or nelfinavir within the past 72 hours. Relpax should only be used after a clear diagnosis of migraine. People with several cardiovascular risk factors need a heart assessment before use. Chest, throat, neck or jaw pain, tightness, pressure or heaviness is generally not caused by reduced blood flow to the heart, but needs assessment in people at high risk of coronary artery disease. Relpax must be stopped if heart rhythm disturbances, bleeding in the brain, stroke, reduced blood flow to the bowel, peripheral blood vessel spasms or serotonin syndrome occur. Overuse of migraine medicines can cause headaches and may require supervised withdrawal. If you are pregnant, discuss use with your prescriber. Animal studies suggest Relpax may harm the unborn baby.
