About Aimovig

Overview

Aimovig (erenumab) is a monoclonal antibody medicine supplied as a pre-filled pen for injection under the skin. It is used to prevent migraine in adults. It works by binding to and blocking the receptor for calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP).

Preventive treatment of migraine in adults.

Side effects

The most common side effects of Aimovig are injection site reactions and constipation. Contact a doctor if you develop an allergic reaction, constipation with serious complications, new or worsening high blood pressure, or new or worsening Raynaud’s phenomenon. Allergic reactions can occur within hours or more than one week after administration. A serious allergic reaction requires stopping Aimovig and prompt medical treatment.

When to call your doctor

Seek medical attention immediately for: - A serious allergic reaction, which can occur within hours to more than a week after an injection. - Constipation with serious complications. - New or worsening high blood pressure. - New or worsening Raynaud’s phenomenon.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Aimovig if you have had a serious allergic reaction to erenumab or any of its other ingredients. Reactions have included anaphylaxis and angioedema (swelling beneath the skin). Serious allergic reactions can occur within hours or more than a week after administration. If one occurs, stop using Aimovig and seek urgent medical care. Aimovig can cause constipation with serious complications, new or worsening high blood pressure, and new or worsening Raynaud’s phenomenon. Tell your prescriber if you have constipation, high blood pressure or Raynaud’s phenomenon.

Dosing

Dosing is set by your prescriber. Each health care professional may prescribe medication differently according to a patient's medical history and condition, so follow the directions on your prescription label and speak to your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.

Storage

Store in the original carton to protect it from light. Check the pack for whether it must be refrigerated before first use and how long it may be kept at room temperature afterwards. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
