About Rapaflo
Overview
Rapaflo contains silodosin, an alpha-1 blocker used to treat the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It works by relaxing smooth muscle in the prostate and around the bladder outlet, which can improve urine flow and reduce BPH symptoms. Rapaflo is not indicated for treating high blood pressure.

Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects include retrograde ejaculation, dizziness, diarrhea, low blood pressure when standing up, headache, inflammation of the nose and throat, and a blocked nose. Contact your doctor if you experience dizziness or symptoms of low blood pressure when standing up, particularly when starting Rapaflo. A drop in blood pressure can also occur without symptoms. If you are planning cataract surgery, tell your eye surgeon that you take Rapaflo. It is associated with a possible surgical complication called intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS).
When to call your doctor
If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
Do not take Rapaflo (silodosin) if you have severe kidney impairment or severe liver impairment, or if you take a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor such as ketoconazole, clarithromycin, itraconazole or ritonavir. Rapaflo should not be used with other alpha-blockers. Moderate kidney impairment requires your prescriber to adjust treatment. Rapaflo may cause a drop in blood pressure on standing, with or without dizziness, especially when treatment begins. Patients thought to have benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) should be examined to rule out prostate cancer before starting treatment. If you are planning cataract surgery, tell your eye surgeon that you take Rapaflo because of the risk of intraoperative floppy iris syndrome, which can affect the iris during surgery.
Interactions
Tell your doctor if you take cyclosporine or another strong P-glycoprotein inhibitor, as these can increase silodosin levels in the blood. Use together is not recommended. Taking Rapaflo with other alpha-blockers is also not recommended. Although these interactions have not been determined, they are expected. Taking Rapaflo with PDE5 inhibitors may cause low blood pressure with symptoms. Discuss this combination with your doctor.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
