About Quviviq

Overview

Quviviq is a prescription medicine containing daridorexant, an orexin receptor antagonist. It is used to treat adults with insomnia who have difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or both. It is thought to work by blocking signals from orexin, a chemical messenger involved in keeping you awake.

Insomnia in adults who have difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or both.

Safety information

Side effects

The most common side effects are headache, sleepiness or tiredness. Quviviq can reduce alertness and coordination, including the next morning. This risk increases when taken with other medicines that slow central nervous system activity. Use caution with next-day driving and other activities requiring full alertness. Contact a doctor if you experience worsening depression or suicidal thoughts; temporary inability to move while falling asleep or waking; seeing or hearing things that are not there around sleep; or episodes of muscle weakness. Effects on breathing also need consideration, especially in people with impaired breathing. Stop taking Quviviq immediately and contact a doctor if you sleepwalk, drive while asleep or do other activities while not fully awake.

When to call your doctor

- Worsening depression or thoughts of suicide. - Sleepwalking, driving while asleep, or doing other activities while not fully awake. Stop taking Quviviq and seek medical help immediately. - Being unable to move when falling asleep or waking up, or seeing or hearing things that are not there at these times. - Sudden episodes of muscle weakness.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.

Before taking this medicine

Do not take Quviviq if you have narcolepsy or a known allergy to daridorexant or any other ingredient in Quviviq. Allergic swelling involving the throat has been reported. Quviviq can reduce alertness and coordination, including the next morning. This risk increases when it is taken with other medicines that slow central nervous system activity. Use caution with next-day driving and other activities requiring full alertness. Caution is needed if you have depression or breathing problems. Depression or suicidal thoughts may worsen, and effects on breathing should be considered. Sleep paralysis, hallucinations when falling asleep or waking, and episodes of muscle weakness resembling cataplexy may occur. Stop taking Quviviq immediately if you experience sleepwalking, sleep driving or other activities while not fully awake. If insomnia continues after 7 to 10 days, it should be reassessed for other underlying conditions.

Interactions

Ask your doctor to check whether any medicines you take affect an enzyme called CYP3A4. Avoid taking Quviviq with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors or moderate or strong CYP3A4 inducers. Moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors require your prescriber to limit your Quviviq dose.

Dosing

Dosing is set by your prescriber. Each health care professional may prescribe medication differently according to a patient's medical history and condition, so follow the directions on your prescription label and speak to your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.

Storage

Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
