About Prolensa
Overview
Prolensa is an eye drop solution containing bromfenac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is used to treat inflammation and reduce eye pain after cataract surgery. It is thought to work by blocking the production of prostaglandins, substances that contribute to inflammation in the eye.

Safety information
Side effects
The most commonly reported side effects, affecting 3% to 8% of patients, were inflammation in the front part of the eye, a feeling of something in the eye, eye pain, sensitivity to light and blurred vision. Contact your doctor about serious reactions, including allergic reactions to sulfites, slow or delayed healing, increased bleeding time, and inflammation or other problems affecting the cornea, the clear front surface of the eye. The label also warns of possible cross-sensitivity, meaning an allergic reaction related to sensitivity to another medicine.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
The FDA label lists no contraindications for Prolensa. It includes cautions about sulfite allergic reactions, slow or delayed healing, potential cross-sensitivity, increased bleeding time, and keratitis (inflammation of the cornea) and other corneal reactions.
