Prezista

Before taking this medicine

Prezista is used with ritonavir. Do not take this combination with alfuzosin, rifampin, lurasidone, pimozide, dronedarone, ivabradine, ranolazine, ergot medicines such as dihydroergotamine, ergotamine or methylergonovine, St. John’s wort, elbasvir/grazoprevir, lomitapide, lovastatin, simvastatin, naloxegol, oral midazolam or triazolam. These combinations may cause serious or life-threatening effects or reduce darunavir’s effectiveness. Do not take Prezista with ritonavir alongside sildenafil used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension. Colchicine must not be taken with this combination if you have kidney or liver impairment. Ritonavir also has its own contraindications, which must be checked before treatment. Tell your prescriber if you have liver disease, including chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis, or raised liver enzymes. Liver inflammation and liver injury, including fatal cases, have been reported. Liver function should be checked before and during treatment. Use caution if you have a known sulfonamide allergy. Severe skin reactions have occurred; stop treatment if a severe skin reaction develops. Tell your prescriber if you have diabetes or hemophilia. New diabetes or high blood sugar may develop, and diabetes treatment may need adjustment. People with hemophilia may have increased bleeding. Prezista with ritonavir is not recommended for children under 3 years old. Darunavir levels may be lower during pregnancy, so discuss pregnancy with your prescriber. Women with HIV should not breastfeed because HIV may be passed to the baby.
