About PREVYMIS

Overview

PREVYMIS tablets contain letermovir, an antiviral medicine used to prevent cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and disease in certain transplant recipients. It is used after an allogeneic stem cell transplant in CMV-seropositive adults and children aged 6 months or older who weigh at least 6 kg. It also prevents CMV disease in kidney transplant recipients aged 12 years or older who weigh at least 40 kg, when the donor is CMV-positive and the recipient is CMV-negative. It works against CMV by blocking a protein complex called CMV DNA terminase.

What it treats

- Prevention of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and disease in CMV-seropositive recipients of an allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant, aged 6 months or older and weighing at least 6 kg. - Prevention of CMV disease in kidney transplant recipients aged 12 years or older and weighing at least 40 kg who are at high risk because the donor is CMV-seropositive and the recipient is CMV-seronegative.

Safety information

Side effects

Common side effects in adults who have had a stem cell transplant include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, swelling in the arms or legs, cough, headache, tiredness and abdominal pain. In adults who have had a kidney transplant, diarrhea is the most common side effect. Side effects in children are similar to those in adults. PREVYMIS can interact with certain other medicines, potentially causing significant side effects or making either medicine less effective. Contact your doctor to review possible interactions with your other medicines. The supplied label extract does not identify specific serious side effects or warning symptoms.

Before taking this medicine

Do not take PREVYMIS with pimozide or ergot alkaloids such as ergotamine or dihydroergotamine. These combinations can increase the risk of serious heart rhythm problems or ergot toxicity, respectively. If you are also taking cyclosporine, do not take PREVYMIS with pitavastatin or simvastatin, as this can cause muscle damage, including severe muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis). PREVYMIS is not recommended for people with severe liver impairment (Child-Pugh C). Other medicines can interact with PREVYMIS, increasing the risk of side effects or reducing the effectiveness of PREVYMIS or the other medicine. Have your prescriber or pharmacist check your medicines for interactions.

Interactions

PREVYMIS can affect the blood levels of other medicines, and other medicines can affect PREVYMIS levels. Tell your doctor about all medicines you take before starting treatment and whenever they change. Be sure to mention cyclosporine, as your prescriber may need to adjust your PREVYMIS dose if you take them together.

Storage
