About Orserdu
Overview
Orserdu (elacestrant) is a prescription medicine for postmenopausal women and adult men with advanced or metastatic breast cancer. It is used when the cancer is estrogen receptor (ER)-positive, HER2-negative and has an ESR1 mutation confirmed by an FDA-authorized test, after the disease has progressed following at least one endocrine therapy. It works by binding to and blocking estrogen receptors and promoting their breakdown, which can inhibit estrogen-driven growth of breast cancer cells.
What it treats
Treatment of advanced or metastatic breast cancer in postmenopausal women or adult men whose cancer is estrogen receptor (ER)-positive, HER2-negative and has an ESR1 mutation detected by an FDA-authorized test, after the disease has progressed following at least one course of endocrine therapy.

Side effects
Common side effects include muscle, bone or joint pain, nausea, tiredness, vomiting, reduced appetite, diarrhea, headache, constipation, abdominal pain, hot flushes and indigestion. Common blood test changes include increased cholesterol, triglycerides, liver enzymes and creatinine, and decreased hemoglobin and sodium. Raised cholesterol and triglycerides are important risks to discuss with your doctor. Your doctor should check these levels before treatment and periodically afterward. ORSERDU can also harm an unborn baby. Contact your doctor if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, and use effective contraception.
Before taking this medicine
The label lists no formal contraindications. However, Orserdu should be avoided in people with severe liver impairment. Moderate liver impairment requires a dosage reduction determined by the prescriber. Orserdu can harm an unborn baby. Use effective contraception, and do not breastfeed during treatment. Orserdu may raise cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Blood lipid levels should be checked before treatment and periodically thereafter.
Interactions
Avoid taking Orserdu with medicines that strongly or moderately increase or block the activity of an enzyme called CYP3A4. Ask your doctor to check whether any medicines you take fall into these groups.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
