Oncaspar

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Oncaspar if you have: • A history of a serious allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis, to Oncaspar or any of its ingredients. • A history of serious blood clots or serious bleeding during previous L-asparaginase treatment. • A history of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), whether or not related to previous L-asparaginase treatment. • Severe liver impairment. Oncaspar can cause serious allergic reactions, blood clots, pancreatitis, raised blood sugar, bleeding and liver toxicity, including blockage of small veins in the liver. Patients must be observed for 1 hour after administration. Blood sugar and liver toxicity require monitoring, with liver monitoring continuing through recovery from the treatment cycle. Abdominal pain needs assessment for pancreatitis. Oncaspar must be stopped if a serious allergic reaction, a serious blood clot, pancreatitis, severe or life-threatening bleeding, or severe liver toxicity occurs. Severe or life-threatening bleeding also requires assessment and treatment. Do not breastfeed during Oncaspar treatment.
