About Odomzo

Overview

Odomzo is a prescription medicine containing sonidegib, supplied as capsules. It treats adults with locally advanced basal cell carcinoma (BCC) that has returned after surgery or radiation therapy, or who are not candidates for either treatment. It works by blocking a protein called Smoothened, which is involved in a cell-signalling pathway called the hedgehog pathway.

Side effects

Common side effects include muscle spasms, hair loss, changes in taste, tiredness, nausea, muscle and joint pain, diarrhoea, weight loss, decreased appetite, muscle aches, abdominal pain, headache, pain, vomiting and itching. Serious muscle-related reactions can occur. Contact your doctor if you develop muscle symptoms, particularly if they are severe or worsening. Your doctor will check creatine kinase (CK) and creatinine levels before and during treatment. Muscle-related reactions may require treatment to be paused or stopped. Other serious risks include harm to an unborn baby and premature closure of bone growth plates. Contact your doctor if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant. Do not donate blood or blood products during treatment or for at least 20 months after the last dose.

When to call your doctor

- Seek medical attention immediately for severe muscle pain or severe muscle spasms. - Call your doctor immediately if you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant during treatment or within 20 months after the last dose.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.

Before taking this medicine

The label lists no contraindications. Odomzo can harm an unborn baby. Do not donate blood or blood products during treatment or for at least 20 months after the last dose. Do not breastfeed during treatment. Muscle and skeletal side effects require monitoring. Blood tests for creatine kinase (CK) and creatinine are needed before treatment, periodically during treatment and when clinically indicated. Depending on the severity of these effects, treatment may need to be paused or stopped. The label also warns of premature closure of bone growth plates.

Interactions

Avoid taking Odomzo with strong CYP3A inhibitors or with strong or moderate CYP3A inducers. Avoid long-term use (more than 14 days) with moderate CYP3A inhibitors. Ask your doctor to check whether any medicines you take fall into these groups.

Storage
