About Nubeqa
Overview
Nubeqa contains darolutamide, an androgen receptor inhibitor. It treats adults with prostate cancer that has not spread and is resistant to treatment that lowers testosterone, or prostate cancer that has spread and remains sensitive to such treatment. For cancer that has spread and remains sensitive to testosterone-lowering treatment, it may also be used in combination with docetaxel. It works by blocking androgens from binding to their receptors and activating signals in prostate cancer cells.
What it treats
- Non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer in adults. - Metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer in adults, including use in combination with docetaxel.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects of Nubeqa include tiredness and blood test changes, such as raised liver enzymes (AST and ALT), increased bilirubin and reduced neutrophils, a type of white blood cell. When Nubeqa is used with docetaxel, common side effects include constipation, rash, reduced appetite, bleeding, weight gain and high blood pressure. Common blood test changes include anemia, high blood sugar, reduced lymphocytes and neutrophils (types of white blood cells), raised liver enzymes and low calcium. Serious risks include reduced blood supply to the heart (ischemic heart disease) and seizures. Contact a doctor immediately if you have a seizure or signs or symptoms of heart disease. Nubeqa can harm an unborn baby and cause pregnancy loss. Men with female partners who could become pregnant should use effective contraception.

Before taking this medicine
The supplied FDA label lists no contraindications for Nubeqa. Caution is needed because of the risk of ischemic heart disease (reduced blood flow to the heart) and seizures. Cardiovascular risk factors should be managed, and patients should be monitored for signs and symptoms of coronary artery disease. Severe ischemic heart disease requires treatment discontinuation. If a seizure occurs, the prescriber should consider stopping treatment. Nubeqa can harm an unborn baby and cause pregnancy loss. Men with female partners who could become pregnant should use effective contraception. Severe kidney impairment in patients not receiving hemodialysis and moderate liver impairment require a prescriber-directed dose adjustment.
Interactions
Nubeqa can interact with medicines affected by certain drug-processing enzymes and transport proteins. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to check whether your medicines fall into these groups: • Combined P-gp and strong or moderate CYP3A inducers: avoid taking these with Nubeqa. • Combined P-gp and strong CYP3A inhibitors: your doctor should monitor you more frequently for Nubeqa side effects. • BCRP substrates: avoid taking these with Nubeqa where possible. If used together, closer monitoring for side effects and a lower dose of the other medicine may be needed. • OATP1B1 or OATP1B3 substrates: Nubeqa may increase the amount of these medicines in your blood. Closer monitoring for side effects and a lower dose of the other medicine may be needed.

Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, in the original pack, away from direct light and moisture. Do not keep it in a bathroom. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
