About NovoSeven RT
Overview
NovoSeven RT contains recombinant activated coagulation factor VII, a protein involved in blood clotting, supplied as a powder in a vial for preparation and injection into a vein. It is used to treat bleeding episodes and manage bleeding around surgery in adults and children with hemophilia A or B with inhibitors, congenital factor VII deficiency, or Glanzmann’s thrombasthenia when platelet transfusions are not effective. It is also used to treat bleeding episodes and manage bleeding around surgery in adults with acquired hemophilia. It works by activating other clotting proteins, helping form a clot at the site of bleeding.
What it treats
Used to treat bleeding episodes and manage bleeding around surgery in: - Adults and children with hemophilia A or B with inhibitors. - Adults and children with congenital factor VII deficiency. - Adults and children with Glanzmann’s thrombasthenia when platelet transfusions are not effective, with or without antibodies to platelets. - Adults with acquired hemophilia.
Safety information
Side effects
Blood clots were the most common and serious side effects reported in clinical trials. They occurred in 4% of patients with acquired hemophilia and in 0.2% of bleeding episodes in patients with congenital hemophilia. Contact a doctor immediately if a blood clot is suspected. Allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, can occur and require immediate medical attention. If symptoms appear, the infusion must be stopped and appropriate treatment given. Patients with factor VII deficiency may develop antibodies to factor VII. Monitoring of clotting tests, factor VII activity and antibody formation is needed.

Before taking this medicine
The label lists no known contraindications to NovoSeven RT. Severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, can occur. If symptoms appear, the infusion must be stopped and appropriate treatment given. People with factor VII deficiency may develop antibodies to factor VII. They should be monitored for prothrombin time (PT), factor VII clotting activity and antibodies to NovoSeven RT.
Interactions
NovoSeven RT should not be used at the same time as activated prothrombin complex concentrates (aPCCs) or coagulation factor XIII (FXIII). Using it with factor XIII may cause blood clots. Tell your doctor if you receive either of these treatments. NovoSeven RT must not be mixed with infusion solutions.
