About Novoseven RT
Overview
Novoseven RT contains recombinant coagulation factor VIIa, a blood-clotting protein, supplied as a powder in a vial for preparation and injection into a vein. It treats bleeding episodes and helps manage bleeding around surgery in adults and children with hemophilia A or B with inhibitors, congenital factor VII deficiency, or Glanzmann’s thrombasthenia when platelet transfusions do not work, whether or not antibodies to platelets are present. It is also used for bleeding episodes and surgical bleeding management in adults with acquired hemophilia. It works by activating other clotting proteins, helping form a clot at the bleeding site.
What it treats
- Hemophilia A or B with inhibitors, in adults and children: treatment of bleeding episodes and bleeding management around surgery. - Congenital factor VII deficiency, in adults and children: treatment of bleeding episodes and bleeding management around surgery. - Glanzmann’s thrombasthenia when platelet transfusions are ineffective, with or without antibodies to platelets, in adults and children: treatment of bleeding episodes and bleeding management around surgery. - Acquired hemophilia in adults: treatment of bleeding episodes and bleeding management around surgery.
Safety information
Side effects
Blood clots were the most common and serious side effects reported in clinical trials. They occurred in 4% of patients with acquired hemophilia and in 0.2% of bleeding episodes in patients with congenital hemophilia. Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, can occur. Seek immediate medical attention if an allergic reaction occurs; the infusion must be stopped and appropriate treatment given. People with factor VII deficiency may develop antibodies to factor VII. Their doctor should monitor blood-clotting tests, factor VII activity and antibody formation.

Before taking this medicine
The label lists no known contraindications to NovoSeven RT. Hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis, can occur. If symptoms appear, the infusion must be stopped and appropriate treatment given. Patients with factor VII deficiency may develop antibodies to factor VII. They should be monitored for prothrombin time (PT), factor VII clotting activity and antibody formation to NovoSeven RT.
Interactions
NovoSeven RT should not be used at the same time as activated prothrombin complex concentrates (aPCCs) or coagulation factor XIII (FXIII). Using it with factor XIII may cause blood clots. Tell your doctor if you receive either treatment. NovoSeven RT must not be mixed with infusion solutions.
