Before taking this medicine

Do not use NovoLog during an episode of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) or if you are allergic to insulin aspart or any of its other ingredients. Extra caution and more frequent blood sugar checks may be needed if you have kidney or liver problems, do not notice the warning signs of low blood sugar, or have changes in meals, physical activity or other blood sugar-lowering medicines. Low blood sugar can be life-threatening. Changes to your insulin treatment, injection site or method of administration should be made under close medical supervision. NovoLog can cause severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, and dangerously low potassium levels. People at risk of low potassium may need blood tests. Taking NovoLog with thiazolidinediones (TZDs) can cause fluid retention and heart failure and requires monitoring. Never share pens, cartridges or cartridge devices, even if the needle is changed. Check the insulin label before every injection to avoid mix-ups. If you use an insulin pump, a malfunction can cause high blood sugar and ketoacidosis; monitor your blood sugar and use NovoLog by injection under the skin if the pump fails.
