Neupogen

Before taking this medicine

Do not use Neupogen if you have had a serious allergic reaction to filgrastim, pegfilgrastim or another human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor. Important cautions include an enlarged or ruptured spleen, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), serious allergic reactions including anaphylaxis, sickle cell crises, kidney inflammation (glomerulonephritis), low platelet counts and inflammation of large or medium-sized arteries. Spleen rupture and sickle cell crises can be fatal. Seek urgent medical assessment for pain in the upper left abdomen or shoulder, or for difficulty breathing. Treatment must be permanently stopped if a serious allergic reaction occurs. It must also be stopped if ARDS or a sickle cell crisis develops, or if artery inflammation is suspected. Kidney inflammation may require a treatment change or interruption. Platelet counts should be monitored. People with breast or lung cancer receiving Neupogen alongside chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy should be monitored for signs of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
