About Mydriacyl
Overview
Mydriacyl is a prescription eye drop medicine containing tropicamide. It is used to dilate the pupil and temporarily relax the eye’s focusing muscle for diagnostic procedures. It works through an anticholinergic action, blocking nerve signals that control these eye muscles.
What it treats
Used to widen the pupil (mydriasis) and temporarily relax the eye’s focusing muscles (cycloplegia) for diagnostic eye procedures.
Safety information
Side effects
Reported side effects include temporary stinging, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, dry mouth, headache, nausea and vomiting. The label does not state how often these occur. Contact a doctor for inflammation affecting the surface of the cornea, increased pressure inside the eye, a rapid heartbeat, allergic reactions, unusual paleness, nervous system disturbances or muscle stiffness. Psychotic reactions, behavioural disturbances and collapse affecting circulation, heart function or breathing have been reported in children receiving anticholinergic drugs. Collapse requires emergency medical attention.

Before taking this medicine
Do not use Mydriacyl if you are allergic to tropicamide or any other ingredient in the medicine.
Interactions
Tropicamide may interfere with the pressure-lowering effects of carbachol, pilocarpine or cholinesterase inhibitor eye medicines. Tell your doctor if you use any of these medicines.

Dosing

Storage
Store below 25°C away from direct light. Once opened, follow the in-use period printed on the pack and do not let the dropper touch the eye or any surface. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
