About Mydfrin
Overview
Mydfrin is an eye-drop medicine containing phenylephrine hydrochloride. It is used to dilate, or widen, the pupil. It works by activating receptors called alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, which makes the pupil widen.
What it treats
Used to dilate (widen) the pupil of the eye.
Safety information
Side effects
Reported eye side effects include pain or stinging when the drops are applied, temporary blurred vision, sensitivity to light and sensitivity reactions affecting the lining of the eye. The frequency of these reactions cannot be reliably estimated. Serious reported reactions include a marked rise in blood pressure, fainting, a fast or irregular heartbeat, heart attack and bleeding around the brain. Some cardiovascular reactions have been fatal, usually in people with existing cardiovascular disease. Seek urgent medical attention if a serious reaction occurs. Narrowing of the pupil can occur the day after use.
When to call your doctor
If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Interactions
Tell your doctor if you use atropine or similar medicines, as combining them with phenylephrine may increase blood pressure and cause a fast heartbeat in some patients. If you are having anesthesia, tell the anesthesia team you use these drops. Phenylephrine may increase the effects of some inhaled anesthetics that depress heart and circulatory function.

Dosing

Storage
Store below 25°C away from direct light. Once opened, follow the in-use period printed on the pack and do not let the dropper touch the eye or any surface. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
