About Mvasi
Overview
Mvasi (bevacizumab-awwb) is a prescription monoclonal antibody medicine given intravenously. It treats certain advanced or recurrent cancers of the colon or rectum, lung, kidney, cervix, ovary, fallopian tube or peritoneum, as well as recurrent glioblastoma in adults. Depending on the cancer, it is used alone or with other cancer medicines. It works by blocking VEGF, a protein involved in forming new blood vessels.
What it treats
- Metastatic colorectal cancer, with chemotherapy as first- or second-line treatment, including certain cases that progress after a bevacizumab-containing regimen. Not indicated for adjuvant treatment of colon cancer. - Non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer that cannot be surgically removed, is locally advanced, has returned or has spread, with carboplatin and paclitaxel as first-line treatment. - Recurrent glioblastoma in adults. - Metastatic renal cell carcinoma, with interferon-alfa. - Persistent, recurrent or metastatic cervical cancer, with paclitaxel plus either cisplatin or topotecan. - Epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube or primary peritoneal cancer, with specified chemotherapy combinations: stage III or IV disease after initial surgery; platinum-resistant recurrent disease after no more than two prior chemotherapy regimens; or platinum-sensitive recurrent disease. For stage III or IV disease and platinum-sensitive recurrence, treatment continues with Mvasi alone after chemotherapy.
Safety information
Side effects
Common side effects reported in more than 10% of patients include nosebleeds, headache, high blood pressure, a runny or irritated nose, protein in the urine, changes in taste, dry skin, bleeding, problems with tear production, back pain and peeling skin. Contact a doctor promptly for serious side effects. These include holes or abnormal connections in the stomach or intestines; wound-healing complications, including a severe tissue infection called necrotizing fasciitis; severe or fatal bleeding; blood clots in arteries or veins; dangerously high blood pressure; a brain condition called posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES); kidney injury or severe protein loss in the urine; severe infusion-related reactions; loss of ovarian function; and heart failure. Blood pressure and urine protein need monitoring during treatment. Mvasi may also harm an unborn baby; effective contraception is needed for females who can become pregnant.

If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek emergency care rather than waiting.
Before taking this medicine
The FDA label lists no formal contraindications for Mvasi. However, it should not be given to people who have recently coughed up blood. Severe or fatal bleeding can occur. Mvasi requires caution because of risks of holes or abnormal connections in the digestive tract or other organs, poor wound healing, blood clots in arteries or veins, high blood pressure, kidney injury and protein in the urine, infusion reactions, and congestive heart failure. It can also cause posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES), a serious condition affecting the brain. Blood pressure and urine protein need monitoring. Serious complications may require treatment to be paused or stopped. Mvasi must be withheld for at least 28 days before elective surgery and must not be given for at least 28 days after major surgery and until wounds have adequately healed. If wound-healing complications occur, treatment must be withheld until adequate healing. The safety of restarting after these complications has not been established. Mvasi may harm an unborn baby. Effective contraception is needed for females who could become pregnant. It may also cause ovarian failure. Do not breastfeed during treatment.

Storage
Store in the original carton below 25°C, protected from light, unless the pack states refrigeration. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
