About Maxidex
Overview
Maxidex is an eye-drop suspension containing dexamethasone, a corticosteroid. It treats eye inflammation that responds to steroids, including allergic conjunctivitis and corneal injuries caused by burns or penetrating foreign objects. It works by reducing swelling and inflammation in the eye.
What it treats
- Steroid-responsive inflammation of the eye, including allergic conjunctivitis, eye inflammation associated with acne rosacea, superficial punctate keratitis, herpes zoster keratitis, iritis and cyclitis. - Selected infectious forms of conjunctivitis when reducing swelling and inflammation justifies the risks of steroid use. - Corneal injury from chemical, radiation or heat burns, or penetration by foreign bodies.

Before taking this medicine
Do not use Maxidex if you are allergic to any of its ingredients or have an acute, untreated bacterial infection; a mycobacterial eye infection; epithelial herpes simplex of the eye (dendritic keratitis); vaccinia, varicella (chickenpox), or most other viral infections of the cornea or conjunctiva; or a fungal infection of any part of the eye.
Using Maxidex
Dosing
Dosing is set by your prescriber. Each health care professional may prescribe medication differently according to a patient's medical history and condition, so follow the directions on your prescription label and speak to your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.
Storage
Store below 25°C away from direct light. Once opened, follow the in-use period printed on the pack and do not let the dropper touch the eye or any surface. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
