Before taking this medicine

Do not use Lupron Depot if you have a known allergy to GnRH, GnRH agonists or any of its ingredients. Severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been reported with GnRH agonists. Conditions requiring caution and monitoring include: • Worsening prostate cancer symptoms during the first few weeks of treatment, when testosterone may temporarily rise. Monitoring is needed for increased bone pain, nerve problems, blood in the urine, blockage of urine flow from the kidneys and spinal cord compression. Spinal cord compression can cause paralysis and may be life-threatening. • Metabolic changes, including high blood sugar, diabetes, high blood fats and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Blood sugar and blood fats should be monitored. • Heart and blood vessel disease. An increased risk of heart attack, sudden cardiac death and stroke has been reported in men using GnRH analogues. • Risk of a prolonged QT interval, a change in the heart’s electrical activity. • Seizures, which have occurred in people with or without known risk factors. Severe skin reactions, including Stevens–Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, have occurred. Treatment must be interrupted if signs or symptoms develop and permanently stopped if a severe skin reaction is confirmed. Lupron Depot may harm an unborn baby and may impair fertility. Discuss pregnancy planning and prevention with your prescriber. These Lupron Depot formulations are not indicated for children.
